Tony Porter Cup
The Tony Porter Cup is in memory of Ballina Hockey Club stalwart, Tony Porter, and is held annually as part of the Far North Coast Hockey Association senior men’s competition when Ballina play Coraki – all grades from A Grade through to C Grade men.
As history tells, there has always been a fierce and often fiery competition between Ballilna and Coraki clubs on the field, but off the field and over the years, great friendships and social camaraderie have developed, mainly in part to TP’s cheeky and determined character and great sense of fair play (occasionally with a Stone’s Ginger Beer in hand).
TP started with Ballina Hockey Club as a junior, then went on to play senior grades, captaining A Grade for many years. Representing masters for Far North Coast, QLD, NSW and Australia. Tony was involved in the development of our turf and club house complex and coached our minkey, junior and men’s teams.
Tony’s great legacy with the Club has continued with his family – children, nephews, wife and brother – all have played and been involved with Ballina hockey.
TP’s enduring words – have a crack !
