Our Club runs Minkey hockey for preschool and primary girls and boys (under 7s). Minkey is held on turf at the Ballina Hockey and Sporting Complex, Kingsford Smith Park every Saturday morning from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Competition commences after the term 1 school holidays and runs until end of August each year.
Minkey is a modified version of hockey designed for mixed teams of girls and boys at primary school level. It is played on a field one-quarter the size of a regular hockey field with only six players a side. Because of the smaller field and modified rules young players have much more contact with the ball. Minkey has been designed as a safe and fun introduction for children into hockey.
Minkey also use a Joey ball, which is a softer ball than the normal hockey ball. Sticks and shinpads supplied, you just need a mouthguard.
